BUILDING SECURITY

Alderwood Elementary has a security system that is set by the custodians after the normal working hours and weekend. If you plan to work in your room during these times, please use the following procedure.

1. Enter the building only through the cafeteria door. Be sure it shuts securely behind you.

2. Sign in on the clipboard outside the custodian's office indicating the time you
enter the building.

3.
TURN OFF THE SECURITY SYSTEM (enter your password). Someone may already be in the building, so check the color and clipboard!

4. Upon leaving indicate the time on the clipboard. If there is no one else remaining inside, reset the security system (enter your password to arm). If the system beeps, that means an obstacle is blocking the beam. Turn off the system, remove the obstacle and reset the system.

Reminder: The security system is motion sensitive. Objects hanging in all hallways should be well secured. (Even a paper gingerbread person can get the sheriff!)

Building Keys

1. Keys are available for all staff members. Check them out in the library, just like you would a book.

A. Three keys are marked TEMPORARY, for those who indicated
they'd like one "once a month" or less.

If you check out a temporary key, please keep it no
more than three days.

B. Room keys are available on a long-term basis for
those who indicated they'd like a key at least twice a
month. Your building key unlocks the parking lot door, the faculty
work room, supply room, Room 5 and the library. Please lock when leaving these areas.

C. Please keep your key with you at all times. Our supply room
will be locked and you will need your key. Also locking your room
at lunch and recesses can prevent disappearing valuables.

BUILDING SAFETY AND SECURITY

Volunteers, Student Teachers, Parents;

Our students need to recognize who are "safe" people that come to work in our classrooms or in the building. If parents, volunteers, or students from WWU are working in the building, they will report to the office, sign in, and wear a badge. All volunteers should sign in every time they come to the school. When the volunteers have completed their work, they should stop by the office and return the badge.

EARLY RELEASE OF STUDENTS

Parents/persons who are picking up children before their regular dismissal time need to report to the office first. The parent is to sign the child out, time, and reason on a clipboard in the office. The parent is to put on a "dot". The dot signifies that this parent has been approved to take the child. If teachers receive notes from parents about an early release, these notes should be sent to the office.
