BAO

My name is Bao. I came to the United States from Vietnam. When I was 5 years old our family was poor and I was in kindergarten. Every day I had to walk almost 1 and a half miles to school. When I was in first and second grades I had to walk 2 and a half miles to school. My brother could not go to school in tenth grade because we didn't have enough money to pay the teacher. On May 7, 1992, we came to America. It took us 5 days to get to Bowling Green, Kentucky. When I first went to school I didn't know any English but I started getting better. We lived in Bowling Green for about 6 months and then we moved to Bellingham. Life in America is different because here people are not so poor.
My father was a soldier in the South Vietnamese army. If you would like to see his picture and to read about his recollection of the war in Vietnam please click here.
